Targets set to reduce emission – creates opportunities for the shipping industry
The IMO is targeting a 50% cut in greenhouse gas emissions from the global fleet by 2050 compared with 2008 levels, following a 40% reduction in carbon intensity by 2030. And 2030 is just eight years ahead.
Looking back, almost eight other years, initiatives were taken to form Norway’s Green Shipping Programme, and in January 2015 the Green Shipping Programme was born. Its overall goal is to contribute to feasible solutions that ensure efficient and environmentally friendly shipping to achieve the national and international climate goals. When writing, more than 100 partners from all parts of the shipping community has joined the program.
By piloting, opportunities for green logistics solutions, green technologies, alternative fuels, and new financial solutions are to be developed. So far 40 pilot projects have been initiated of which 13 have been realized / under construction. In this seminar we would like to share The Green Shipping Programme’s experiences through actual and ongoing pilot projects.
